From the Friends Of Arizona Highways Magazine Photography Workshop in April of 2006... CHECK BACK OFTEN, there are more on the way.

Most of these are low resolution for the web, and should print fine as 4x6... if you want a high resolution or large print let me know.

Day 1...

After several hours on the bus ride up from Phoenix we took a break at the Indian ruins at Wupatki National Monument. These are the Lomaki Ruins, and our first chance to shoot.

Jerry called our attention to the pinkish cast to the clouds... they pick up the red reflected back up from the ground.

Note that this image is a panorama made from 5 separate images.

So why do you think with all the room in the world they built right at the edge of the arroyo?

Walking back to the bus from the ruins this ancient tree caught my attention. Bare branches reaching out and new growth at the center.

A pair of trees...

About 15' after sunrise, still a warm glow to everything.

The round nodules on the rock are harder material that hasn't eroded.

Amazing how the trees can grow right in the stone.

One Lone Tree...

About 30' after sunrise... incredible patterns and geology and the color was changing constantly. Notice more brown and less red?

Desert Primrose...

We almost stepped on this in the dark walking out to the overlook. I stopped for this image on the hike back just in time. They open at night in the desert, and close up shortly after sunrise.

Mid-day at Uppper Antelope Canyon, also known as the "Cork Screw Slot Canyon".

Our group about to venture in... fearless leader in the middle.

Sorry about the lense flare.

It was quite dark in the slots. This shot was a 30" exposure. As the dust drifted about, shafts of light would cut through, bounce off the walls, and light the rock from all directions.
